A large amount of water is wasted in low income countries that have no proper system to collect water in rainy seasons. There should be a proper collection system so that this water can be used later on case of need.
To have a solution to this ever-increasing problem of clean water shortage, if not totally absent in some parts of the world, would be to have the ability to turn pebbles into gems for some. Being from Mali, specifically TImbuctu, I know how the problem of water to a great extent, and to remedy to the problem will certainly take more than passing out laws and all the bureaucracies. Water needs to be valued more than it is now, because as long as we don't educate people on how valuable and precious this gift is, we will still encounter people not caring about polluting it.
Before industralisation, many water sources were pure and flowed naturally. Today due to man's activities, pollution is the major cause of bad drinking water. Therefore tackling this subject will go a long way ensuring good and safe water today and in the future.
Unsafe drinking water became, yet another perilous epidepmic danger to add to my list of concerns for my children & this generation of children that are the factalities to this "silent war". 7 years ago, living in a county in the state of Washington, I noticed that the evalvated landscape after it rained was coated with a pasty, green sediment. My research I discovered that I lived in a county with the "WORST WATER-SHED" IN THE NATION..gone unchecked for ten years. My children were showing negative health effects, such as their fecal matter from time to time discolored, and matched the posion on the land that drained into our drinking water. I went to purchase a water purifier that would take out the cancer causing chemicals in our water such as "chlorine" for one. The best was the size of a "mainframe" computer and it cost $800 at that time..I could not afford it , so I bought a small pitcher that cost $80, took 6 hrs tode-tox the water. I'll will tell you what I believe needs to be done. The public awareness must become a national threat to our survival..I would be willing to risk front line involvement. If real facts were broadcast on the emergency management system, then maybe enough would be enough, and we could take back our rights to distribute federal funds that we as taxpayers invest in with out a voice of the management of those resources & distributions to funds. Then with height public awareness, then we could sanction and elimate and ban the distribution and production of posionious chemicals and elimate the current polcies & politicians that are "regulating" the production of poisons... I guess my thoughts may be extreme to some, yet I know we buy purified water that is more times that not regular tap poison! And we are dying for the essentials we need to live are no longer in our water..the minerals..life giving water the is now water that has "OVER 250" chemicals in it. Just think..mothers unknowingly are giving their baby a bottle fatal chemicals...
As our writer Jackie Powder wrote in this issue, the world's luckiest people can turn the tap and receive safe, clean water. There's perhaps no more basic need for people. Yet here we are in the 21st century and 1.2 billion are not fortunate enough to have adequate, safe water. In this online forum, we look to you to spark new ideas and launch valuable discussions. Please let us know what your solutions are to the world's desperate water needs.
